It’s the bump in the night

Or the lump in the breast

It’s a late night knock

Or a bill one can’t pay

It’s a gunshot outside

Or a pet’s failing health

It’s a face in the window

Or a child on the wrong path

It’s a snake close and coiled

Or a call from the school

It’s a sense of impending doom

Or a diagnosis of disease

It’s a lightening strike too close

Or a surgery one must have

It’s hearing things unseen

Or hearing nothing at all

It’s realizing one is mortal

Or needing health insurance

Its looking into an abyss

Or losing the ability to see

It’s facing the fury of a storm

Or realizing life is short

It’s not knowing the future

Or suspecting there’s not one
