Does it matter really

Whether we be happy

Or whether we be sad

Since the world goes on

Merciless

The rich one is unhappy

The poor one is happy

There’s no accounting for it

The world just rolls on

Cruel

It matters not if we strive

Or if we loiter in laziness

And wait for dumb luck

Rewards are not always given

Unfair

Beauty is often unseen

Ugliness makes top billing

Then there’s confusion

As to which is which

Unjust

Laughing makes a loud noise

Crying is mostly silent suffering

The world we know goes on

Unaffected by either emotion

Cold

No matter what we do

If we live on to old age

Or die young and new

The world won’t stop

For me or for you

The best we can do therefore

Is live in the world aware

That it will go on as it does

Stopping for no one

Not one.
