Now What’s Going On?
Oh! Medium has completely and permanently erased two stories while I was writing them!
Now what is going on with Medium? I’ve been losing stories starting yesterday. I thought it was something I was doing or some crazy thing going wrong on my computer for a while. I’ve pretty much ascertained that this is not the case.
I guess I’ll think twice before I write any more articles critical of Medium, eh?
I’ll be merrily typing along, and all of a sudden, poof, my story disappears. There is absolutely no way that I know of to get it back when this happens, and hey, it’s mean and cruel — no matter what is causing it.
Of course, when a blank screen is suddenly what I see, that will be the last draft that is “saved.” Except there is nothing there.
What the hell? At first I thought I must be mistyping or some way doing it on my keyboard, although I don’t know of a key that would erase everything. I tried to duplicate it and get it to do it again after typing a bunch of gibberish, and I cannot duplicate what happened. It’s happened to me twice now. (My bad for letting it happen to me twice, duh).
Is anyone else experiencing this? What in the world is happening? I’ve basically enjoyed Medium’s word processing capabilities, but now I must write everything on Word first because I’m afraid otherwise I will lose the whole thing. Do I have a goblin or a gremlin cruelly waiting until I’m almost through with a piece before erasing every word?
The other thing is on Medium’s mobile app for iPhone. I cannot look at responses on the mobile app today. When I click on a response in my notifications, the response comes up for only a second and then disappears.
Additionally, is anyone else having trouble with your cursor landing in random places after a return and causing you to type somewhere in the body of what you’ve already written? Is that just me and something stupid I’m doing or something about my system, or is it a glitch in Medium?
I experienced the problem on my laptop, and since last night my mood has been one of complete frustration.
Also, on the mobile app, it is impossible to see who clapped for a story. I use this feature often to find writers with like interests to follow. If it’s a story I really loved, I want to see who else clapped for it because they are probably someone I want in my Medium “community. Why can’t I do that on the mobile?
I’m barely computer literate, so I don’t know how much of this trouble is really Medium or how much is me or my laptop.
I’d love to hear your opinions and advice. Please don’t tell me not to write my piece on Medium. I’ve learned that the hard way, at least until I figure out what is causing me to lose my work.
Thanks for all responses.
I’m going to try Medium Help…if I can find the dang thing.
This new trouble is in addition to all the complaints I had in my story about Medium’s changes.
Any help will be appreciated and I especially would like to know if anyone else is having the same problems.
