Put the Pressure On McConnell

In 2016 he said a nominee should not be approved late in a president’s term.

Every media outlet needs to make it clear exactly what a hypocrite Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is if he allows Trump to appoint a replacement for Ruth Bader Ginsburg. And he says that’s exactly what he’s going to do.

It needs to be reported until it’s reached everyone in the country. McConnell blocked President Obama from appointing a member of the court citing the fact it was late in Obama’s term. There was a lot more time left in Obama’s term than there is in Trump’s. He said he felt the American people should have a say in who is appointed by what president they elect.

It’s really late in Trump’s term — if he’s not re-elected, he’ll only be president four months — and he has no business appointing a nominee when there’s a very good chance he’s going to lose the presidency in a little more than a month. McConnell said so.

When it was Obama nominating a justice, it was too late in his term, McConnell said, for him to be able to decide who will sit on the court. To put a nominee in now is to thumb one’s nose at the people and to go back on what he so publicly said. Trump has already made two appointments and saw them approved by the Senate. He’s already had too much influence on the court.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s dying wish was that she not be replaced until after the election. Do we not owe her that much? She gave her life to the law and to her country, of course we owe her that.

If McConnell brings an appointee before the Senate before the election he’s the biggest, most obvious hypocrite in recent history. If he does, maybe his opponent will stomp the daylights out of him on election day.

RBG said she “fervently wished she wouldn’t be replaced until after the election.

We should all fervently wish McConnell loses his senate seat to Amy McGrath. Without McConnell the damage Trump has done would have been limited. McConnell needs to sit down.
