To Silent Darkness
A train thunders by
Only a block away
And it reminds me
Of the dreadful downfall
Of my country
It is going faster now
Hurtling toward oblivion
The powerful engines
Pulling all that weight
And making all that noise
But without hard braking
Or a violent crash
It will inevitably
Pass on by
Leaving
Nothing changed
As it roars and screeches
Into the dark of night
Leaving behind nothing
Of its awesome power
Even the deafening noise
Of its passing
Will quickly fade away
And be gone
Though maybe coming back
Someday
